March 8th holds a very special place for women around the globe for it is the day that International Women’s Day is celebrated. With its first gathering held in 1911, International Women’s Day has been recognised well over a century already.
What makes for this occasion to be momentous is its celebration of women’s achievements be in the social, economic, cultural and political aspects of their lives. And there are significant activities held on this day where groups of women come together to celebrate women’s achievements or rally for women’s rights.

To celebrate this day, we have asked some women in Rich Products Malaysia what celebrating International Women’s Day means for them. Here’s what we got.
Our general manager, Calyn Yap, regaled us with her experience of motherhood. As such, she touched upon the responsibility that comes with it. Before being a mother, she thought it was having a big role to fill, turns out it goes beyond that. Now, being a mother, she is a lot more involved in her children’s lives and feels that she handles stress a lot better. Also, as a corporate leader too, she had shared her thoughts on Women’s Day. “It is a day to pay respect and honor to the contributions of women in whatever they do, and the roles they play, as a daughter, a sister, a mother, a friend, even extending to the company and co-workers.”

“International Women’s Day is the day to remember that women do not need a man to lead them. Women too, can also be very powerful and lead. Take examples from the powerful women who made history and even till this day, there are women in leadership positions that put their lives in front for others. It’s something more women can learn from them.” — As much as it is tough being a woman in a leadership role, and sometimes the hardest part is to find a new spark, to keep the passion and to constantly keep up with our own expectations, we believe that the pressure helps us to build a mental fortitude.
“International Women’s Day is the day where women can reflect and celebrate on how much they have done throughout the year. Sometimes, we as women, think that we cannot do what men can do, but the reality is far from that. With determination, we can achieve what men capable of.” — Such a wonderful statement and a gentle reminder for women. Apart from all the hard work, we are glad there are more opportunities to celebrate the successes and strides that women have achieved in the workplace as compared to before.
“In some ways, every woman’s experiences vary greatly depending on where we were born and how we were raised in our society. And in some ways, we face universal struggles, regardless of where we are. As such, success is subjective to every woman. To some, being a mother is one; but some may say starting their own business is a success. I’d say we celebrate each woman’s individuality and recognize their own merits in what they do, that makes them fulfilled.” — We are only limited by our own dreams. So, in whatever you do, give it your all and celebrate it.
With all that is said and done, we thought of sharing you some ways to celebrate International Women’s Day with us, with the various of perspectives of women.
